Faux Finishing
Faux finishing is a unique way to create depth on the walls, ceilings or floors of your business or home. It is a process that dates back centuries to the ancient Mediterranean empires of Persia and Rome and is still used today. In the castles and churches of Europe, master artisans came from many regions to create faux finishes which aged and enhanced spaces, coordinating fine finishes and art on the walls using plaster. This method is called fresco in which a small amount of pigment was painted on fresh plaster and when dry would last hundreds of years. Today there are paints, pigments, metallic powders and specialty tools that mimic many surfaces such as leather, wood, stone or metal. If you like a cracked Old World look with multiple layers of depth, this can be achieved through the process of layering plaster, paint or using tissue paper. Modern homes have unique finishes in them such as highly polished synthetic Venetian plasters and metallic finishes or a dulled down soft look of lime based plasters with wood accents. There are thick plasters that create deep fissures that can give a Mediterranean look.
